Questions people often ask first.

Getting Started
Get in touch via the contact form. We'll schedule a brief consultation to talk about what brings you in, answer any questions you have, and see whether we're a good fit.
If something in your life feels stuck, unresolved, or harder than it should be — that's usually enough reason to explore it. Therapy doesn't require a crisis or a diagnosis. Many people come in simply because they want to understand themselves better or navigate a transition more thoughtfully.
The first one to four sessions are a consultation — a chance to get to know each other. I'll ask about what brought you in and what you're hoping to work on. You'll have time to ask questions and get a sense of how I work. At the end of that period, we decide together whether to move forward and what treatment might look like.
The Work
Individual sessions are 45 minutes. Couples sessions are 45–50 minutes. Most people meet weekly, particularly at the start of treatment. Frequency is something we discuss together based on your needs and goals.
It varies. For some people, a focused course of work over a few weeks or months is the right fit. For others, therapy is a longer-term process. Treatment length isn't predetermined — it's a collaborative decision that we revisit together based on your goals and how things are going.
Yes — working with older adults is an area of genuine expertise. I completed a postdoctoral fellowship in Geropsychology and have worked extensively with older adults facing health changes, loss, caregiver stress, and end-of-life concerns.
Practical Matters
Get in touch and we'll discuss fees directly. Before we begin, you'll receive a written Good Faith Estimate reflecting the agreed-upon rate for your care.
I am out-of-network with all insurance providers, which means I don't bill insurance directly. Many plans offer out-of-network mental health benefits that allow you to be reimbursed for a portion of the session fee. Before we begin, it's worth calling the member services number on your insurance card and asking:
  • Do I have out-of-network mental health benefits?
  • What percentage of the fee is reimbursed after I meet my deductible?
  • What is my out-of-network deductible, and how much have I met?
  • Is there a limit on the number of sessions covered per year?
  • Is there a maximum covered amount per year?
  • What is the usual and customary rate for CPT code 90834?
A superbill is an itemized receipt that includes the diagnostic and billing codes your insurance company needs to process a reimbursement claim. I provide superbills upon request.
I ask for 48 hours' notice to cancel or reschedule. Each patient has two free cancellations per calendar year — no questions asked. Beginning with the third cancellation, a fee equal to the full session rate applies, regardless of notice given. No-shows are always charged the full session fee.
Yes. I offer both in-person and telehealth sessions for individuals and couples located in New York and New Jersey. Telehealth works well for many people — and less well for others. It's something we can think through together and adjust as we go.
Privacy & Confidentiality
Yes. Everything disclosed in sessions is confidential and cannot be shared without your permission. There are a small number of legally mandated exceptions:
  • If you express intent to harm yourself
  • If you express intent to harm another person — in which case I am required to notify authorities and the potential victim
  • If there is suspected abuse or neglect of a child, elder, or person with a disability
  • If a court orders the release of records or testimony
  • If an insurance company conducts an audit or case review
When possible, I'll discuss these situations with you before taking any action.
