A training position for psychologists completing doctoral training and preparing for independent practice.
The fellowship is based in a small outpatient private practice in New York City. Clinical work spans grief and bereavement, health psychology, chronic illness, serious illness and cancer, aging, anxiety, depression, trauma, and couples work.
The practice's size allows for genuine mentorship, consistent access to supervision, and a training experience that is individualized to the fellow.
Fellows carry a caseload of individual and couples therapy with adult patients presenting across a range of concerns, with particular depth in health psychology (chronic illness, cancer, terminal illness), grief and bereavement, anxiety and mood disorders, trauma, and relationship difficulty.
Training is offered in a range of evidence-based approaches, including CBT, ACT, Prolonged Exposure, Cognitive Processing Therapy, Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy, CBT-I, Meaning-Centered Psychotherapy, and Interpersonal Psychotherapy.
Fellows will also have opportunities to attend didactic seminars and participate in case consultation relevant to the clinical work.
Fellows receive weekly individual supervision from Avi Miodownik, Psy.D. The focus is on case formulation, the use of self, and developing the clinical judgment needed for independent practice.
Applicants must have completed an APA-accredited doctoral program in clinical or counseling psychology and an APA-accredited predoctoral internship. Dissertation must be successfully defended prior to the fellowship start date.
